From 1520 to 1925 the château de Neuvic was the property of the Mellet de Fayolle family and experienced both tragic and fortunate periods during its history: Henry IV came here, the Marquis of St Astier was murdered here, a celebrated literary salon was held here. The 20th century was more eventful with a succession of American owners, one a speculator and a particularly generous couple.
The 6 hectare botanical park and gardens include plant et tree collections (oak, viburnum, maple, hydrangea, peonies etc.) so that you can explore, at your own pace, the variety of forms, colours and perfumes of this green world. Since 2006 the park is one of the Bird Protection League’s bird sanctuaries (RSPB equivalent) and is therefore rich in nest boxes, feeding points, insect havens, and fallow uncultivated land.
